Inject-Aid began from a joint Brown University + RISD + Alpert Medical School course, titled "Design+Health". Here, we were grouped into different medical disciplines and tasked with shadowing in hospitals in order to find a problem space and design around it.
My group, consisting of myself, James Cradit (RISD), Hanna Wells (Brown), and James Williams (AMS), was assigned to the Dermatology department, where we shadowed under the advice of Divya Sharma and a team at Ximedica, a local medical device engineering company.
Based on our research, our problem statement was: “Needle-based procedures are psychologically and physically painful”. From here, we crafted a cooling patch-based injection apparatus that would provide the user with comfort during an uncomfortable experience.
In this process, my primary role was in research and ideation, with my bandage-style injection point mechanism being the root of our final design. The following drawings are based on ideas from all team members and drawn by James Cradit.
